Community Health Impact Faculty Fellowship
The Pullman Regional Hospital Center for Learning and Innovation announces a competitive fellowship for Washington State University faculty.
Through the Community Health Impact Fellowship, we hope to encourage community collaboration, collegiality, and productivity to dramatically improve health care delivery, lower costs and improve patient outcomes.
- Be a full-time faculty member at Washington State University
- Have the endorsement of his/her Dean and/or Department Head
The Community Health Impact Fellow will be awarded the following:
- $5,000 fellowship (funds will be paid directly to the individual)
- Attend Community Health Impact Fellowship program kick-off event
- Present at the 2018 Pullman Regional Hospital Innovation Summit
- Share outcomes of project with Pullman Regional Hospital staff and Board of Commissioners and community
- Upon completion, fellows will submit an executive project summary including description, outcomes and a brief evaluation. These reports will be published on the Center for Learning and Innovation web page.

Criteria for Selection
Candidates will be selected based on the alignment of their project with one or more of the following Pullman Regional Hospital innovation priorities. The individual should have excellent communication and organizational skills and an ability to work with professional medical staff, Center for Learning & Innovation staff, and community partners.
- Patient Experience – Innovation criteria emphasizes improving processes for clinical quality and patient safety. Focus should encompass all environmental aspects of the patient experience including physical surroundings, atmosphere, and address the needs of non-medical caregivers involved with patient care.
- Population Health – Innovation criteria encourages the exploration of new models for delivering and paying for medical services in our region while improving outcomes and reducing costs. Concepts centering on care coordination, navigation and team care seeking to improve the patient experience. This extension of patient-centered care also seeks to identify opportunities for the use of community wide health record integration. Opportunities for implementation of these core concepts need further research development and testing. All potential strategies identified will be monitored and progress noted for improving outcomes and reducing costs.
- Clinical Scholars – Innovation criteria seeks to expand, improve, and redesign the educational experience for individuals who provide direct care to patients. The primary emphasis for this activity is the role of simulation training in the preparation of clinicians for providing safe, high-quality care.
- Personal Enrichment – Innovation criteria involves development, organization and exploration of the best ways to evaluate, deliver training and education for staff and community outreach. Content emphasis: life skills, wellness for life, and resiliency training; management of fiscal mechanisms in healthcare, healthy aging classes and non-medical caregiver training, etc.
- Leadership Development – Innovation criteria focuses on competencies for effective leadership. Leadership coaching, peer coaching, and principles of learning organizations will be included in the offerings.
