Summit Therapy receives 2015 Healthcare Excellence in Aquatics Award for innovative therapy

Feb 12, 2015

Pullman Regional Hospital’s Summit Therapy & Health Services is the recipient of the 2015 Healthcare Excellence in Aquatics Award from HydroWorx. Summit Therapy’s Ambyr Henderson, speech therapist, and Tim Williams, physical therapist, along with Carrie Coen, director, attended the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting in Indianapolis last week during which the winner of the award was announced. Ambyr and Tim were recognized as clinicians who garnered superior rehabilitation results through innovative and unconventional methods.

The specific innovation in therapy was performed on Jackson Flipper, a 3 year old Summit Therapy patient who had a brain tumor removed and is working to regain motor and cognitive functions. Ambyr and Tim teamed up to provide a combination of speech and physical therapy using the aquatic environment as a medium to help achieve exceptional results in Jackson’s recovery.

The story of Jackson and his therapy using the HydroWorx pool was one of four nominees judged by a panel of six independent, national judges. Public voting on the videos via social media provided a seventh vote.
