Pullman Regional Hospital Wellness for Life Coordinator Named

Stephanie Pierce has been named the Wellness for Life Coordinator at Pullman Regional Hospital. Pierce, who was hired in January to the position, will oversee the hospital’s employee wellness program, which includes program development, evaluation and eventually expansion of the Wellness for Life program to the community.
Wellness for Life is in its third year at Pullman Regional Hospital but this is the first year it has been tied to employee health insurance. Employee participation has increased by more than 80 percent from last year. All employees are eligible for the Wellness Program, regardless of their insurance choice. Employees must enroll in the Wellness Option plan in order to have the hospital pay 100 percent of the employee premium and receive $500 in their health savings account or a $250 gift card if they are not eligible for an HSA.
Pullman Regional Hospital held a two day Biometric Event for staff this month. Those enrolled in Wellness for Life can participate in the Biometric event at which employees take a baseline measurement of weight, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, blood glucose, and blood pressure. This, combined with an online health assessment, is “100” points of the total 400 points that an employee must achieve to stay in the program. Other points are earned and tracked by the employee for exercise, being a non-smoker, steps walked per day, and daily nutrition.
Approximately 60 percent of the total 420 employees at Pullman Regional Hospital participated in the Biometrics event.
Pierce is excited about being in her new role and the increase in employee participation in the program. She said this year is more of a launch year with her primary focus on managing the increased enrollment in the program. Since starting, she primarily has been working on getting people signed up on Viverae, the online employee assessment and tracking tool.
Neither Pierce nor the hospital can see any personal, individualized health information. Information is available in the aggregate so that trends and specific health concerns can be identified to prepare educational programming.
