Orthopaedic Center of Excellence agreement announced

May 5, 2016

A new Orthopaedic Center of Excellence is now officially part of the healthcare landscape on the Palouse thanks to a partnership between Pullman Regional Hospital and Inland Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Clinic. The agreement, which was recently finalized, provides for the organization, implementation and operation of an Orthopaedic Center of Excellence at Pullman Regional Hospital for inpatients, outpatients, and Emergency Department patients. The Center will be co-managed by Pullman Regional Hospital and Inland Orthopaedic Surgery and is part of the hospital’s Center for Learning & Innovation.

“This agreement provides for long-term sustainability of physician-based orthopaedic surgery and care at Pullman Regional Hospital and is a formal recognition of the high quality orthopaedic care provided by the physicians at Inland Orthopaedics that is available at Pullman Regional Hospital,” said Scott Adams, Chief Executive Officer.

Last year, 679 orthopaedic surgeries were performed at Pullman Regional Hospital by the three surgeons at Inland Orthopaedics, Dr. Charles Jacobson, Dr. Steve Pennington and Dr. Ed Tingstad. This volume combined with an extremely low hospital acquired infection rate in 2015 and very high patient satisfaction showcases the high levels of skill, safety and quality. The surgeons will concentrate on knee and shoulder surgeries but will also perform hip surgeries and other orthopaedic procedures.

In addition, the agreement provides for seven days a week, 24 hours a day on call service to PRH’s Emergency Department and attending physicians. The Orthopaedic Center of Excellence is expected to help with recruitment of new orthopaedic surgeons over the next two years.

“On behalf of the Inland Orthopaedic surgeons, we are pleased to be a part of an exciting new partnership with Pullman Regional Hospital,” said Dr. Ed Tingstad. “Our patients deserve excellence in care at a facility with the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction. Pullman Regional Hospital assures access to quality orthopaedic care for the community and the region.”
