Washington State University Student Volunteers
Pullman Regional Hospital assists WSU students in acquiring experience in fields related to their chosen healthcare careers. Volunteer opportunities exist for pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-nursing and occasionally, pre-physical therapy students.
WSU student volunteers must have completed their freshman year, have a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and be currently enrolled in a healthcare related area of study.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR SPRING 2014 SEMESTER
We are currently accepting applications for the spring semester. Only COMPLETE application packets will be accepted and are due no later than December 20, 2013. Due to the large number of WSU student volunteers, the number of new volunteers that will be accepted into the program is limited. The first applicants to submit a complete application packet will be invited to attend orientation.
How To Become a WSU Student Volunteer
All WSU Student Volunteers must fill out and return the Volunteer Application and Washington State Criminal Background Check forms, which can be downloaded by clicking on the links below. State law requires a check for criminal history through the Washington State Patrol. The Criminal Background portion of the Volunteer Application must be completed and signed. The background check is processed and paid for by the hospital.
In addition to the volunteer application, the following must be completed and turned in with your application. Only completed application packets will be accepted.
1. Verification of completed two step TB skin test. If you have not completed a TB skin test within the last year, it may be completed at Pullman Regional Hospital at no charge. To schedule an appointment, please call Shari Larsen at 509-336-7354. You may also have the tests completed at WSU Health and Wellness or your family physician.
2. Verification of immunity to measles, mumps and rubella. Proof is determined by documentation of immunizations or documentation of a physician's diagnosis of disease or a positive blood test.
3. Letter of intent which includes your chosen medical profession upon graduation.
4. Letter of recommendation from your advisor including GPA and year in college (you must have completed freshman year with a minimum GPA of 3.0).
Your complete volunteer application packet may be submitted to: Jessica Rivers, Volunteer Services, Pullman Regional Hospital, 835 SE Bishop Blvd, Pullman, WA 99163. Only completed application packets will be accepted. For questions, email email@example.com.
VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION: WSU student volunteers are also required to complete Pullman Regional Hospital's Volunteer Orientation before beginning to serve. There will be two volunteer orientation sessions offered for each semester. Volunteers need only attend one orientation. Volunteers will be notificed of the dates upon acceptance of completed application.
PHARMACY VOLUNTEERS: In addition to the application packet, pharmacy volunteers must have a Pharmacy Assistant License. For questions on obtaining your license, please see your WSU advisor. Pharmacy volunteers must make a commitment to serve a minimum of two consecutive semesters and work a minimum of two hours per week. Pharmacy volunteer opportunities are limited. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss availability.
SUMMIT THERAPY & HEALTH SERVICES VOLUNTEERS: We currently contract with the WSU Athletic Training Program and WSU Bio 490 class, as well as a number of Graduate Physical Therapy programs for Physical Therapy observation hours. We make sure that those students are placed first, and any other available time after that we are more than happy to place students looking for observation hours. We do however have very limited space, but will do our best to accommodate needs. Any opportunities for under-graduate pre-PT students will be listed on this website, at the time of the opening, to which students may then apply. There are currently no openings for pre-PT.
