YOUR PATH TO RECOVERY

Injuries can happen to anyone, whether you play sports competitively or enjoy being active outdoors on the weekends. Together, we can find a treatment solution that will allow you to return to the activities that you enjoy.

The orthopedic providers at Inland Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine Clinic also serve as team physicians for Washington State University and have the extensive knowledge and experience to evaluate, diagnose, and treat a number of conditions stemming from athletic injuries. Our ultimate goal is to help you recover from your current injury and help you prevent injuries in the future.

CARING FOR MINOR SPORTS INJURY

There are simple steps you can take to jumpstart your recoveryand get back to the game quicker. An easy acronym to remember is RICE:

Rest - Don't push it. As hard as it is to sit out of a game or practice, your body will thank you. Ignoring an injury can lead to further damage and a longer recovery.

Ice - Control swelling initially and reduce pain by icing the injured area for 10 minutes at a time. Make sure your ice pack has a light towel in between the ice and the skin to prevent frostbite.

Compression - Use a wrap like an ACE bandage to apply compression to the injured area. Use caution to not wrap it too tight as this may cause a loss of blood flow.

Elevation - The RICE method is for minor sports injuries like sore joints and minor ankle sprains. If your injury is more serious or your symptoms worsen or persist, call your doctor right away. You may need x-rays or an MRI to check for bone or ligament damage.

REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC TRAINING PROGRAM

To ensure the health of our area high school athletes, Pullman Regional Hospital’s Orthopedic Team has partnered with Colton, Garfield-Palouse, Potlatch and Pullman school districts to provide Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs) at each school.

They work in conjunction with student-athletes and their families, coaches, ATCs in training, and physicians at Inland Orthopedics, with the goal of providing consistent and efficient treatment, triage and prevention of sports injuries. Student athletes have access to assessment, treatment and rehabilitation from the designated Athletic Trainer, at no cost to the family.

“The Regional High School Athletic Training Program has brought us wonderful and much-needed services to our student athletes, parents and coaching, that we couldn't have provided as a district without their support, as well as the support of individual and corporate donors. ”
