About the Program

When a patient is medically stable, but not quite ready to return home, Pullman Regional Hospital's Swing Bed program provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation in a safe, comfortable hospital environment. For eligible patients from the Palouse and surrounding communities, it's an opportunity to continue recovery closer to family, caregivers, and home.

Patients may be considered for Swing Bed placement by meeting medical and payer eligibility requirements. Referrals can be initiated by providers, nursing staff, rehabilitation staff, case management, patients, or family members.

Frequently Asked Questions

Swing Bed is a government, insurance-based term that allows patients to "swing" or move from an acute level of care to a skilled rehabilitation level of care, but remain in a hospital setting.

Our Swing Bed program provides recovery in a hospital setting with access to hospital-based services. Your care also includes close collaboration with clinicians and rehabilitation staff, all while remaining close to home and family support systems.

Our care team will set a personalized treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. You may receive physical and/or occupational therapy, IV therapy, or other care. Similar to your inpatient stay, you'll receive 24-hour nursing care that is overseen by one of our physicians. When you're not in therapy, you can spend time visiting with family and friends or simply relax.

The length of stay varies based on medical necessity, rehabilitation goals, and insurance coverage. We will help by providing you with all your options and alternatives for future care when necessary.

Re-entry is not automatic. Eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on medical necessity, insurance requirements, prior authorization, available benefit days, and other qualifying criteria. Please contact our team to discuss your specific situation.
