We’re excited you want to support our patients, families, and staff by volunteering at Pullman Regional Hospital! Please read the information below carefully to ensure that volunteering at Pullman Regional will be a good fit for you.

Requirements

Applying: Our application process opens early November 2025 for the 2026-27 academic year. See below for application open and close dates. When you apply, for a completed application you will need to provide a Resume, Cover Letter, Letter of Recommendation, and an Unofficial Academic Transcript. Application material can be emailed to volunteers@pullmanregional.org.

GPA: We welcome students who are seeking a healthcare-related degree and have attained at least a sophomore standing with a GPA of 3.0 or greater, by the time they start volunteering.

Time Commitment: Volunteers will be required to make a two-semester minimum commitment of at least one (2 hour) volunteer shift per week. We do not expect our volunteers to do shifts during Thanksgiving break, Winter break, Spring break or Summer.

Purpose:  Volunteers should only apply to gain experience in clinical settings in healthcare. Student volunteers gain valuable exposure to the clinical environment, while developing relationships with hospital staff and their peers. Students perform a variety of tasks including stocking supplies, assembling patient charts, and other duties as assigned by staff. We are looking for volunteers interested in Pullman Regional Hospitals values and interested in providing an amazing patient experience. Volunteers are not promised job shadowing, and opportunities will be presented as you grow as a volunteer.

Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities are available in several clinic areas of the hospital including Same Day Surgery, Medical-Surgical/Intensive Care Unit, BirthPlace, Emergency Department. We are continuing to add more departments as our opportunities grow.

Onboarding

  1. Our onboarding process will start in late February where we will contact our accepted volunteers. We will also reach out to those that aren’t accepted and see if they would like to be added to our waitlist for the next available opportunity.
  2. Make sure your vaccinations are up to date by visiting your primary care provider, review your vaccination history, and receive any updated vaccinations. You will submit your vaccination records to the Pullman Regional Hospital Employee Health Coordinator for review. Once your vaccination records have been approved, they will let the Volunteer Coordinator know that this step in the process has been completed. All of these health screening steps are mandatory.
  3. Sign a HIPAA form.
  4. We will conduct a background check.
  5. Submit a headshot for our Student Volunteer badges.
  6. Attend a new volunteer orientation in August before the school year starts.

Volunteers will select their department to volunteer in when all the onboarding steps are completed. When you select your department you choose to volunteer in, that will be the department you report to for the semester. If you would like to do more than 2 hours a week, you can discuss that with the Volunteer Coordinator at orientation.
